Ross O’Sullivan isn’t committing Baie Des Iles to the 2019 Grand National next month, the trainer instead waiting for the dust to settle following the runner’s fall at Down Royal on Saturday afternoon. The eight-year-old was a possible candidate for the big race at Aintree on April 6th and she was travelling very well at Down Royal under the guidance of Gold Cup-winning jockey Paul Townend before falling three fences from the finishing line.
O’Sullivan, who saddled a winner at Wexford the following day, said, “Paul said she was hacking along (when she fell). It’s just not the ideal prep that we wanted. She had them all at it. The Grand National is three weeks away and I think we will make up our minds in the next couple of days. She is definitely going back to France, but I’m not sure about the Aintree National yet. It’s a pity, because if she had won on Saturday it would have been lovely.”
Baie Des Iles remains a possibility for the 2019 Grand National and the runner is a 40/1 shot with Ladbrokes Bookmakers for glory at the Aintree spectacular next month.
