Big guns still on course for 2021 Grand National with 68 runners remaining
Grand National firm favourite Cloth Cap remains very much in contention for the big race on Saturday afternoon following the announcement that he would remain in the list of potential runners following the latest forfeit stage. The number of horses aimed towards the 2021 Randox Grand National has been whittled down to 68 and this will be further reduced to the final 40 on Thursday morning, whereupon we will announce the full list of runners for the 2021 Grand National.
Leading female hopeful Rachael Blackmore – winner of the champion jockey award at the 2021 Cheltenham festival – has revealed that she hasn’t dare dream about winning the most famous steeplechase in the world, claiming “I try not to think about it too much”.
All of the big contenders for the race remained very much on course to make an appearance on Saturday afternoon with 68 entries left in contention at the five day declaration stage. These include favourite Cloth Cap as well as fancied entries such as Irish hopefuls Burrows Saint, Any Second Now and Rachael Blackmore ride Minella Times, the latter trained by Henry de Bromhead.
Since the previous scratching stage, nine horses have been taken out of the running and as expected, these include: Beware The Bear, Santini, Pym, Gold Present, Brahma Bull, The Jam Man, Achille, Keeper Hill, The Jam Man and Treacyenniscorthy.
Cloth Cap remains firm favourite at odds of around 4/1 while his main contenders in the market are Burrows Saint at 8/1, Any Second Now at 9/1 and Minella Times at a general 11/1.
