Delta Work eyes Grand National triumph on back of Cross Country victory

Thanks to his stunning display at the 2022 Cheltenham Festival, Delta Work heads into the Randox Grand National as one of the favourites.

Rachael Blackmore and Minella Times will be aiming for back-to-back Grand National wins on Saturday, 9th April but Cross Country hero Delta Work has been gaining traction with big money being aimed towards the Gigginstown House Stud-owned gelding.

The Gordon Elliott-trained runner heads to Aintree on the back of an impressive win over two-time Grand National hero Tiger Roll in the Cross Country at the Cheltenham Festival last month. This was the very first time that Delta Work had been tested over the Prestbury Park obstacles and he enjoyed a clear win over his stablemate who has plenty of experience over these courses.

Punters will also be buoyed by the fact that Tiger Roll triumphed in the Cross Country before each of his two Grand National victories and Delta Work has become one of the clear favourites for the Aintree showpiece at general odds of 8/1.

In fairness, Delta Work hasn’t been enjoying the best of form overall with some punters put off by his record of 5U3-4661. He unseated his rider last term and this might prove a recurring issue in the Grand National madness on Saturday afternoon.

Despite all this, trainer Gordon Elliott said: “He’s had a good prep. It (The Cross Country) has been a good stepping stone for the race and he is in good form”.
