Flooring Porter makes strong claim for 2025 Grand National

Two-time Stayers’ Hurdle winner Flooring Porter romped to victory with relative ease in the Kerry National at Listowel yesterday and stakes a strong claim for the 2025 Grand National next April.

Introduced into the betting

Flooring Porter was introduced into the betting for the 2025 Grand National after putting in an amazing performance at the Kerry National on Wednesday afternoon, the Gavin Cromwell inmate delivering very handsomely for the four-strong Flooring Porter syndicate who had paid a mere £4,800 for the horse six years ago.

Led from start to finish

He has subsequently taken £670,000 in earnings with two Cheltenham Festival wins in the Stayers’ Hurdle. Previous to his appearance at Listowel on Wednesday, Flooring Porter had raced four times over fences but he led the field from start to finish in the Kerry National and added £100,000 more to his career earnings in the process.

Clear lead

By the time he reached the third obstacle, the 6/1 favourite was already enjoying a clear lead and with five fences left to jump he had extended this advantage further still. As the final two fences were approached, there was no real threat and while Willie Mullins hopeful Horantzau d’Airy narrowed the margin of victory to 4 1/4 lengths, this was nevertheless a very impressive victory for the nine-year-old.

2025 Grand National

With over six months left to go until the Aintree Festival, some bookmakers have added Flooring Porter to the betting for the Grand National and he is a 33/1 shot at this stage in a market headed by 2024 National winner I Am Maximus who is currently priced at 12/1. Gavin Cromwell saddled 2023 National runner-up Vanillier and the handler has his eye on the 2025 edition with Flooring Porter. Who can blame him!
