Kelso offers punters early glimpse of 2020 Grand National Runners

2017 Grand National winner One For Arthur won the Paxtons Exclusively Kverneland Handicap Steeplechase at Kelso two years en-route to Aintree glory and the runner will be looking to repeat this feat on Saturday in the 2019 renewal of the race. Trainer Lucinda Russell has also given Big River an entry in this race, this horse a possibility to be one of the Grand National runners in a little over five months’ time following an excellent showing at the Cheltenham Festival and a fifth-placed finish in the Scottish National at Ayr earlier this year.

Vintage Clouds was placed in the Welsh and Scottish Nationals before falling in the Aintree spectacular last season and this runner is one of two entries at Kelso for Sue Smith, her other being Sharp Response which won the North Yorkshire National at Catterick earlier this year.

Nigel Twiston-Davies-trainer runner Blue Flight will share top weight with One For Arthur in the race, the gelding grabbing two wins and a second-placed finish in his earlier visits to Kelso racecourse during the spring.

With J P McManus-owned Drumcliffe also in the frame alongside Captain Redbeard, 2018 winner Dandy Dan, Michael Scudamore-trained Mysteree and Jonniesofa, we’re certainly in for what looks set to be a mouthwatering race on Saturday afternoon.
