Leg fracture rules Jack Kennedy out of 2023 Grand National

Gordon Elliott stable jockey Jack Kennedy has been ruled out of the 2023 Grand National due to a leg fracture and Keith Donoghue has been named on second-favourite Delta Work.

Due to a leg fracture, Jack Kennedy won’t be featuring on any Gordon Elliott contenders in this year’s Grand National on Saturday, 15th April, while Keith Donoghue is set to continue his partnership with Delta Work, the stable’s leading contender in the Aintree showpiece.

Kennedy sustained his leg injury back in January and he has been battling hard to make a recovery. He played no part in the Cheltenham Festival last month and has failed in his bid to return to fitness in time for the 2023 Grand National festival and in particular, the £1 million showpiece race.

Kennedy finished third in the 2022 Grand National on Delta Work but this time around, Donoghue will be in the saddle for the second favourite following his victory in the Glenfarclas Chase at Prestbury Park a few weeks ago.

Donoghue was the regular partner of two-time Grand National winner Tiger Roll, however on both of these Aintree victories he forfeited the ride to Davy Russell. He has only ridden in the Grand National once before, riding Valseur Lido to eighth place in 2018.

Russell, who hasn’t appeared since the Cheltenham Festival last month, will return to action for the opening day of the Aintree festival and he will partner Galvin in the 2023 Grand National itself.
