One-two for Christian Williams in 2022 Scottish Grand National

The 2022 Coral Scottish Grand National was dominated by Christian Williams as Win My Wings finished ahead of stablemate Kitty’s Light in the Ayr showpiece.

Christian Williams saddled the first two over the line at the 2022 Scottish Grand National, the Welsh handler proving once again that he remains one of the very best when it comes to training staying chasers.

Win My Wings and Kitty’s Light went off as joint-favourites for the race at 13/2 apiece, the winner being ridden by amateur jockey Rob James who claimed an offset of 7lb. The Irish rider is one of the most prolific point-to-point jockeys in the Republic of Ireland but he has only had one previous winner in the UK, this being Milan Native in the Cheltenham Festival Kim Muir.

After a generous early pace in the Scottish Grand National, James settled the mare into mid position and kept clear of any potential trouble on the outside before sitting alongside Ask A Honey Bee some way out. This was where Win My Wings showed her stamina and as the likes of Ashtown Lad and Major Dundee started to grow weary, the mare pulled herself clear with James allowing her to coast home after the final fence. Kitty’s Light stayed on to finish second while Major Dundee and Fidux finished third and fourth respectively.
