Poker Party and Blaklion guaranteed run in Randox Grand National

Following the announcement of the latest confirmations stage, both Poker Party and Blaklion have made the cut for the world’s most famous steeplechase.

With Poker Party’s stablemate Chris’s Dream having been pulled out of the £1 million contest, Minella Times now finds itself with the biggest burden for the 2022 Grand National and with Highland Hunter already out through injury, Chatham Street Lad was the only other absentee from the top 40. Potential contenders such as Eclair Surf and Death Duty now need more runners to withdraw in order to make the line-up on Saturday afternoon.

The final field of 40 runners – as well as four reserves – will be announced on Thursday.

The other horse scratched on Monday was Go Another One who was 42nd on the list.

Following 7.5 mm of rain on Sunday evening/Monday morning, the ground at Aintree Racecourse for the 2022 Randox Grand National has moved from Good to Soft, having previously been good to soft, good in places.

Dan Skelton-trained Blaklion will be making his fourth appearance in the steeplechase, the runner having finished in fourth position, been brought down and finishing sixth in his previous appearances.

Death Duty is now 41st in the Grand National list and Domaine De L’Isle sits one place behind as things stand. They sit on the same weight and as such their final position is set to be determined by their respective BHA ratings.

43rd on the list is Emma Lavelle-trained Eclair Surf while Fortescue sits 44th.
