Race Schedule and TV Coverage for the 2022 Randox Grand National
Rachael Blackmore became the first ever female jockey to win the Grand National twelve months ago and she will be aiming to repeat this historic triumph on Saturday afternoon.
Rachael Blackmore will make a welcome return to Aintree on Saturday afternoon along with her winning horse Minella Times. The three-day meeting gets underway on Thursday afternoon and spectators will be filling the stands for the first time in 2019, the 2020 event having been completely cancelled and the following year’s event being held behind closed doors due to the continued pandemic.
The Grand National itself gets underway at 5:15pm on Saturday afternoon, 40 horses and jockeys competing over a distance of four-and-a-quarter miles with 30 fences to be jumped over the two circuits. The tallest of these fences is the Chair at 5ft 2in but this only features on the first lap, as does the Water Jump. The other fourteen fences, such as Valentine’s Brook, the Canal Turn and Becher’s Brook, are all jumped twice during the course of the contest.
Generally the race takes anywhere between nine and eleven minutes to complete, depending on the conditions.
Around 150,000 spectators will visit Aintree Racecourse over the three days of the meeting, Grand National day alone seeing 70,000 throng the stands at the venue with the bookmakers offering a wide range of Grand National free bets and other bonus offers.
