Rachael Blackmore out to impress again at 2022 Grand National

Rachael Blackmore will head to the 2022 Randox Grand National Festival on a high following her success in the 2022 Cheltenham Gold Cup aboard A Plus Tard. With trainer Henry de Bromhead planning to run Minella Times once again in the famous steeplechase, the scene is set for Blackmore to make more history.

Rachael Blackmore made history when she became the first ever female rider to win the Grand National, Minella Times romping home to victory by six-and-a-half lengths in the 2021 renewal of the famous race. The nine-year-old will be burdened with 15lb more on this occasion and this partly explains why the 2021 winner is priced as high as 20/1 to strike again on April 9th.

De Bromhead said: “Minella Times has been a little bit disappointing this year but he seems to be coming back to himself, so we are hoping he’s coming into form. Unfortunately, Balko des Flos (the 2021 runner-up) won’t be going this season, but we’ve got plenty of others including Chris’s Dream and Court Maid. She (Court Maid) has just joined our team and we also have Poker Party, so there are plenty of others there to represent us.”

After the latest acceptance stage on Tuesday, Any Second Now, Delta Work and Escaria Ten are general 10/1 joint-favourites. Gordon Elliott is expected to play a big hand once again with the Gigginstown handler set to saddle five of the first eleven in the betting list.
