The list of runners for the Scottish Grand National on Saturday afternoon have been announced and the field of 26 contenders is dominated by Irish trainer Willie Mullins who has six taking part in the contest.
Six entries in Scottish Grand National
Irish handler Willie Mullins is accelerating his quest to claim his first ever British Jump Trainers’ Championship with a total of six entries in the Scottish Grand National at Ayr on Saturday afternoon. The Closutton trainer is ahead of Paul Nicholls and Dan Skelton in the race to clinch the coveted award after tasting success in the Aintree Grand National with I Am Maximus last weekend and while he dominates the Scottish equivalent on Saturday afternoon, he has another twelve runners across other races in the two-day Ayr meeting.
Macdermott and Mr Incredible
Macdermott and Mr Incredible head Mullin’s team for the 2024 Scottish Grand National, the former partnered with Danny Mullins for the contest and going into this test on the back of a 12-length victory at Fairyhouse last time out. This will be the six-year-old’s first race outside of the Republic of Ireland in nine starts.
Maiden victory in the race
Stablemate Mr Incredible goes into this race on the back of a disappointing Aintree Grand National where he parted company with jockey Brian Hayes at the 15th fence (Chair). Partnered by Patrick Mullins this time around, Mr Incredible has failed to register a win in six starts but many are backing him to give Mullins a maiden victory in the Scottish.
