Meath-based trainer Gordon Elliott has made it clear that he intends to aim two-time Grand National winner Tiger Roll towards the 2021 renewal of the famous steeplechase, taking place on April 10th.

Elliott’s hopes for a third consecutive win for Tiger Roll were dashed earlier this year when the Covid-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the Grand National, along with most other major sporting events. Instead, a virtual race was held and the 5/1 favourite finished in fourth position.

Elliott has now confirmed that his intentions are to prepare Tiger Roll for a return to Aintree in a little over five months’ time. The trainer said that he couldn’t be happier with Tiger Roll and that the horse “looks brilliant” and is “moving great”. He also confirmed the news that most racegoers have been waiting for, that Tiger Roll will be heading to Aintree on April 10th.

He said: “Yes 100%, obviously the Aintree Randox Health Grand National is the plan with Tiger Roll.”

The big question is, will Tiger Roll make history by winning the Grand National in three consecutive renewals of the race, something that even Red Rum couldn’t manage?
