Walk In The Mill moved up the list to number 48 after the latest acceptance stage for the 2019 Grand National earlier this week and as such he isn’t yet guaranteed a place in the final 40 on April 6th. This uncertainty is a somewhat uncomfortable reminder for trainer Robert Walford of his previous disappointment last year – under completely different circumstances – when this runner had secured a place in the famous steeplechase only for it to be ruled out on the day due to lameness.
The nine-year-old has proven his aptitude and suitability for the Aintree course when triumphing in the Becher Chase over the fences in December 2018 and Walford is realistic as to his chances of making it into the final cut, the trainer saying:
“He’s well, but he’s no good thing to get in.
“It’s just one of those things. We need eight out – (but) we’re training him for the race, and he’s in good form.”
He added, “If he doesn’t get in we might run in the Scottish National, I suppose.”
Ladbrokes offer an ante-post price of 33/1 on Walk In The Mill to win the 2019 Grand National.
