Sue Smith grey Vintage Clouds was beaten favourite in the 2019 Scottish national when finishing sixth behind winner Takingrisks and he will be aiming to make it fourth time lucky in the 2021 renewal on Sunday afternoon.
Prior to this he had finished third and seventh in the Scottish showpiece jumps race of the season, however Vintage Clouds returned to top form when winning the Ultima at the 2021 Cheltenham festival last month, Galashields rider Ryan Mania guiding him to victory in first-time cheekpieces.
Jedburgh-based Aye Right is favourite for Sunday afternoon’s race and he has enjoyed some notable efforts since the start of the season, however Vintage Clouds looked in very fine fettle at Prestbury Park in his latest outing and his easy campaign following wind surgery might see him go two places better than his third-placed finish behind Joe Farrell three years ago.
The 2021 Scottish Grand National will take place on Sunday 18th April 2021 at Ayr Racecourse with a scheduled start time of 3:35pm. A maximum field of thirty runners will contest the race over a distance of roughly four miles.
