Willie Mullins aims six towards Scottish Grand National
The biggest horse race north of the border takes place this coming weekend and here at grand-national.uk you can check out all the latest Scottish Grand National runners, riders and best bookmaker betting odds.
Willie Mullins stormed to the front in battle to win the British jumps trainers’ title for the first time when he triumphed with I Am Maximus in the Aintree Grand National last weekend and the Closutton handler will be playing a strong hand in the Scottish equivalent which takes place at Ayr on Saturday, 20th April.
Big celebrations
It was big celebrations for trainer Willie Mullins as he claimed success in the 2024 Grand National at Aintree with 2023 Irish National winner I Am Maximus and he is currently out in front in the race to win the British jumps trainers’ title. The Scottish Grand National is Mullins’ next big target and Mullins has whittled down his contenders for this £200,000 4m handicap from an initial ten runners to a current six, the team headed by favourite Macdermott who soared to the top of the betting on the back of his stablemate’s success on Merseyside last weekend.
Confirmation stage
Having unseated his jockey at the Chair at Aintree on Saturday, Mr Incredible looks set to line up at Ayr and is the only Grand National runner to be amongst the 36 fighting it out for a place after yesterday’s confirmation stage.
Single contender
Mullins’ provisional team is completed by Spanish Harlem, Ontheropes, Klarc Kent and We’llhavewan, while his main opponent for the trainers’ championship, Dan Skelton, may be represented by just a single contender this weekend, namely Ballygrifincottage, should Sail Away be instead be engaged at Cheltenham.
No runners for 2023 winner
2023 Scottish Grand National winner Kitty’s Light finished fifth at Aintree on Saturday and he doesn’t feature amongst the confirmations at Ayr, thus leaving two-time Scottish National winner Christian Williams without any runners this time around.
