Windsor Avenue to take in Kelso on way to Aintree Grand National
Windsor Avenue triumphed in the Sky Bet Chase at Doncaster earlier in the season. It is anticipated that he will contest the Randox Grand National on 9th April but will first take in a race in the listed Premier Chase at Kelso.
Sky Bet Chase victor Windsor Avenue will be making an appearance north of the border prior to taking his place in the Randox Grand National in eight weeks’ time. This Doncaster triumph was the third career win over fences for the 10-year-old, the fitting of blinkers appearing to help the Phil and Julie Martin-owned runner to a three-and-a-quarter length win.
Having beaten 15 rivals at odds of 40/1 in the three-mile contest, Norton trainer Brian Ellison has set his sights very much on the famous Aintree steeplechase on 9th April. He said: “The last time I spoke to Phil, we were going to go to Kelso and then on to the National.
“It was a good run last time at Doncaster. He’s fine and has come out of the race well, but obviously we hope the blinkers will work again.
“The Premier Chase is a nice stepping stone and while he is not ground dependent, I think he is better on a bit of good ground.”
Ellison was also happy to confirm that Sean Quinlan, winner of the Scottish Grand National in 2019 aboard Takingrisks, will more than likely continue his partnership with Windsor Avenue on 9th April.
He added: “As far as I know, Sean will ride him in the National,”
At the time of writing, Windsor Avenue is a 33/1 shot for the four-and-a-quarter-mile Aintree contest.
