Corach Rambler to miss 2023 Scottish Grand National but Lucinda Russell has two other hopefuls for Saturday afternoon
The 2023 Randox Grand National winner Corach Rambler won’t be going for a double at Ayr this weekend following his victory on Merseyside on Saturday afternoon.
Christian Williams will have a double handed chance at the 2023 Coral Scottish Grand National as he bids to keep hold of the trophy following this success with Win My Wings twelve months ago. The Welsh handler has main contender Kitty’s Light in the list of five-day nominations and the 7-year-old is firm favourite to do the business on Saturday afternoon at general bookmaker odds of 7/1. Williams is also hopeful of sending Swinley Chase victor Cap Du Nord into the contest.
Aintree Grand National winner Corach Rambler was one of 29 withdrawn from the contest in the most recent deadline stage, trainer Lucinda Russell instead relying on Mighty Thunder and Your Own Story, the former having triumphed in the race two years ago.
Monbeg Genius, who came in third behind Corach Rambler in the Ultima at the Cheltenham Festival last month, is also a leading contender for the Ayr showpiece for trainer Jonjo O’Neill, most bookmakers going 8/1 that he finishes first past the post on Saturday.
Dusart will likely be burdened with top weight here, the Nicky Henderson-trained runner having been pulled up on his most recent start in the Cotswold Chase three months ago. He may become Henderson’s first contender in the Scottish Grand National since 2018.
