Coral Welsh National victor Potters Corner has has been burdened with a weight of 10st 6lb for the 2020 Randox Health Grand National and trainer Christian Williams has said that he is “happy” with this allocation. The runner is currently amongst the top-ten in the betting to win the famous steeplechase on 4th April and Williams has said that the preparations for the big race are going well.
“I’m happy with the weight, it’s what we expected and we’re looking forward to it now. If you thought about it you could guess what he’d have,” he said.
“We’re going to France next. He’s been before, it suits him and it’s good money. Then there’s four weeks to the National.
“I don’t think he needs the ground soft. Aintree is a big, galloping track and he’s not just a plodder. We had a dry winter last year and he still showed solid form. It’s never quick on National day anymore.”
Potters Corner is owned by a syndicate which includes Welsh international rugby star Jonathan Davies and the runner will be aiming to become the first Welsh-trained horse to win the famous race since 1905 when Kirkland romped home to victory.
Potters Corner is currently a best price of 25/1 to win the 2020 Randox Health Grand National on the ante-post market.
