Cloth Cap not in running for Scottish National as wind op beckons
Following the disappointment of being pulled up in the Grand National at Aintree last weekend, Cloth Cap won’t be amongst the contenders for the 2021 Scottish National which will take place on the rescheduled date of Sunday 18th April.
Having been forced to pull up in the Randox Grand National on Saturday afternoon, Cloth Cap looks set to be in line for a wind operation with jockey Tom Scudamore reportedly hearing a ‘gurgling noise’ in the Aintree marathon. As such he won’t be aimed at the Scottish Grand national at Ayr on Sunday afternoon and this was confirmed when he was absent from the list of 31 entries on Monday.
Cloth Cap went off in the Aintree Grand National as 11/2 favourite and he was enjoying an excellent run when he appeared to falter and was pulled up just three fences from home. Trainer Jonjo O’Neill said: “Tom (Scudamore) said he was going away grand and he just started gurgling a little bit and he did the right thing and pulled him up. He was having a great run and everything was going grand then he stopped. We will get him checked out but we will look at his wind. Tom just said he got slower and slower but he did the right thing.”
Jockey Tom Scudamore added: “He’s okay, he just got very tired. He took to the fences really well but we were beaten a long way out.”
