Confirmations Declared for 2023 Scottish Grand National
Thirty-one runners have now been left in the Scottish Grand National to fight it out for the biggest prize in Scottish horse racing.
31 runners have now been declared for the 2023 Scottish Grand National which takes place at Ayr Racecourse on Saturday, 22nd April 2023. The final field for the £200,000 contest will be revealed on Thursday.
2022 runner-up Kitty’s Light is current favourite amongst the leading bookmakers at general odds of 5/1 while Jonjo O’Neill-trained Monbeg Genius and Lucinda Russell’s Your Own Story following at 8/1 and 11/1 respectively. Russell will be hoping to follow on from her success at the Aintree Grand National last weekend when she became the winning trainer with Corach Rambler.
Your Own Story heads into this contest with form figures of 3-5-2 at this venue and is well suited to this trip, having won at Wetherby in March over a distance of 3m 7f.
Gevrey and Malina Girl (20/1 and 14/1 respectively) are Irish hopefuls while Sandy Thomson’s Flower Of Scotland and Empire Of Steel come in at 12/1 and 14/1 respectively, the trainer having lost Hill Sixteen who didn’t make it past the first at Aintree last weekend after being affected by the delay caused by the animal rights protestors.
