Kitty’s Light favourite to win 2023 Scottish Grand National

The 2023 ‘National’ season will draw to a close this weekend when Scotland’s version will get underway at Ayr Racecourse on Saturday afternoon.

Following hot on the heels of the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse earlier this month and the drama at Aintree last weekend, the Scottish Grand National completes this thrilling trio of massive staying prizes and Kitty’s Light is the big favourite on the west coast of Scotland.

Welsh handler Christian Williams tasted success in the 2022 renewal of the contest with Win My Wings and he enjoyed a one-two twelve months ago with Kitty’s Light coming in second. The latter is favourite at a general price of 4/1 to go one better this time around and the shape of his task has become even clearer following the latest confirmation stage which resulted in the entries being whittled down from 60 to 31 runners.

Also somewhat prominent in the market is Monbeg Genius at a general 8/1, the Jonjo O’Neill runner having finished third to Aintree victor Corach Rambler in the Ultima Chase at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival. O’Neill has enjoyed success as a trainer at most of the big British races, however he has yet to win the Scottish Grand National.
