Robinsfirth wins Grand National trial at Haydock Park

Colin Tizzard-trained Robinsfirth improved on his second-place finish at last year’s Grand National Trial Handicap Chase by winning this year’s renewal of the race at odds of 8/1, however he won’t be lining up in the famous steeplechase at Aintree on 6th April as he was just one of eight runners in the trial not entered in the 2019 Randox Health Grand National.

The ten-year-old came a close second behind Wakanda in the Peter Marsh Chase last month, however he stepped up to the mark under the guidance of Sean Bowen who had also ridden a winner earlier in the day in the form of Quel Destin. Ramses De Teillee (8/1) came in second, a length and a quarter ahead of third-placed Chef D’Oeuvre (12/1) while Tizzard’s Royal Vacation (10/1) put in a decent effort ahead of the Grand National despite finishing a full twenty-eight lengths behind the front three.
