History made in the 2021 Grand National as Cheltenham Festival champion jockey Rachael Blackmore wins the Grand national aboard Minella Times, thus becoming the first female rider ever to win the world famous steeplechase. We look at the full Grand National result for 2021.

Rachael Blackmore – First female rider to win Grand National

Rachael Blackmore has done it again. The first female jockey ever to be champion jockey at the Cheltenham festival has followed it up with an even bigger achievement by winning the 2021 Randox Grand National.

Both jockey and trainer enjoyed a tremendous Cheltenham Festival and this amazing form continued in the world’s greatest steeplechase of the lot as Minella Times gave a scintillating performance. Balko Des Flos gave trainer Henry de Bromhead a superb one-two while Any Second Now finished third after being hampered earlier in the contest.

Burrows Saint travelled very well but couldn’t quite get home and had to content himself with fourth while seven-year-old Farclas completed the top five in the market. Cloth Cap went off as firm favourite and he jumped well throughout in a prominent position for much of the trip, however he dropped back through the field and pulled up when fourth from home.

It was Jett who made the running for most of the contest but it was clear that he would fade a couple from the last and under heavy pressure, Blackmore was the one who took full advantage and Minella Times responded perfectly to win convincingly.

The only disappointment was that there were few people at Aintree Racecourse to see her triumph, however that will matter little as Rachael Blackmore etches her name once again into the history books.
