The five most backed horses for the 2024 Grand National

All odds correct at time of writing (12.04.24)

Corach Rambler won the 2023 Randox Grand National in thrilling fashion and the Lucinda Russell-trained runner has been the most backed horse for the 2024 Grand National since the end of last year’s contest.

Corach Rambler  –  15/2

As 8/1 favourite in the 2023 Grand National, Corach Rambler managed to fend off a somewhat spirited late charge by Vaniller to triumph by two-and-a-quarter lengths and give trainer Lucinda Russell another victory in the contest, six years on from One For Arthur who won in 2017.

Thus far, Corach Rambler has been easily the most backed horse for the 2024 Grand National in the outright and each-way markets at a best price 15/2.

I Am Maximus  –  10/1

Willie Mullins-trained ‘I Am Maximus’ won the Irish National last year and he impressed in the Bobbyjo Chase two months ago. His jumping was somewhat questionable in the Irish Gold Cup but was much less guessy in his last outing and the chances are that this lightly raced and improving chaser will be hard to keep out of the frame in the 2024 Grand National.

Vanillier  –  11/1

From the final fence it was Vanillier who came home the strongest in the 2023 Grand National and he placed Corach Rambler under serious pressure. The eight-year-old is currently third favourite for the 2024 Grand National and having impressed when winning the Albert Bartlett at the 2021 Cheltenham Festival, he is fancied to be amongst the contenders at Aintree tomorrow afternoon at a best price of 11/1.

Meetingofthewaters  –  12/1

Meetingofthewaters was the subject of a sizeable gamble this week and there was talk that he might even start as favourite on Saturday afternoon, however this seems somewhat unlikely despite the fact that there is plenty fo commend him here, including a victory on heavy ground at Leopardstown in an extremely competitive handicap. In the Ultima Handicap he put in a better showing than Noble Yeats  (Grand National 2022 winner) managed two years ago and is a worthy consideration in this year’s National.

Mr Incredible  –  14/1

Mr Incredible parted company with rider Brian Hayes soon after the Canal Turn last year and having refused to enter the fray on two occasions early in his career, he has plenty of quirks to his nature. Nevertheless, his more recent form cannot really be faulted including an impressive second-placed finish in the Midlands National in his last outing and he has an obvious ability, despite winning just one of his last nine chase starts.
